Hauts Forts towers above the Arare area of Avoriaz. It is the highest peak in the Chablais Massif and the hike to the summit in the summer is exposed and exhilarating. In winter the streets of Avoriaz are snow-lined and peppered with skiers, boarders and horse drawn sleds zipping around. In summer, you can drive through the streets all the way down to the top of the Prodain Cable car. This is a good start point for an ascent of Hauts Forts where you can follow the route of the ‘Blue d’Arare’ and ;Blue d’Lac’ pistes up to the top of the ‘Intrets’ chair lift. The hike gets more interesting from here on the diagonal path zigzagging up the scree face above. This path leads to a saddle before the ridge-line scramble to the Summit of Hauts Forts. If you look carefully, you can see the satellite in the fore ground. The view back East along the ridge made for a magnificent shot leading back to the majestic Dents du Midi.
